The Rochester Police Department is continuing its Good Night Lights outside the Golisano Children’s Hospital this holiday season.

5-year-old Bentley Vega loves when law enforcement comes to visit, adding a special touch to the holiday season.

“They’re my friends, and they’re cops. They do lights, and they play bingo with me in here," Vega said. "And I just want to say thank you for that.”

Bentley was diagnosed with a rare form of AML leukemia in August, and has been getting treatments at the hospital for the last three months.

“It’s hard because with his chemotherapy schedule, we’re here for a longer period of time," His mother Ashley Sample said. "…Home for about a week, and then we come right back. So even though we go home Friday, we’ll probably be back here for Christmas.”

But the Rochester Police Department’s Good Night Lights help Bentley forget about the treatments.

“It looks like a bunch of cops are pulling over somebody," Vega said. "The lights are pretty cool, and when they say goodnight to everybody it’s pretty cool too.”

The same is true for 5-year-old Ivelisse Rivera, who was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at birth. It means a lot to their families, too.

“It makes you feel a little more relieved. The stuff they do, it makes it feel like they’re bringing Christmas to you when you can’t go home,” her mom Vershonda River said.

Bentley says happy holidays, and thanked law enforcement for the gesture.

“It makes everybody feel good, makes everybody feel better, so they can keep going home,” Vega said.

The department has two more Good Night Lights events planned this month.
