It was a Christmas staple for generations of people locally, and now it has a new home in Rush.

The Midtown Plaza monorail is now on display at the New York Museum of Transportation on East River Road.

For nearly 50 years kids would head to Midtown to climb aboard and take a spin around the mall during the holiday season.

When the mall closed in 2007, the monorail sat in storage — until now.

Visitors to the museum were nostalgic about the experience.

"But it was just an exciting time for them with all the crowds of people that used to be there. It's a shame it's gone, but for my kids, it was an exciting time of their growing up period," said Brighton resident Bob Webster.

The New York Museum of Transportation is open on Sundays only from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
