Republicans hold most of the upstate Senate seats, although there are solidly Democratic seats in and around the urban centers of Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany. Noticeably missing from that list is Rochester, which has only Republican Senators. But the 56th district voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and so Democratic candidate Jeremy Cooney is hoping he can flip it. Cooney is a former aide to the late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and the former chief of staff to Mayor Lovely Warren. He joins us from Rochester to talk more about his race against Republican Senator Joe Robach.
