Perhaps the most glaring measure of opulence onboard the newly christened Regent Seven Seas Explorer is found inside its lavish suites. At the very top rung is the 4,400 square foot Regent Suite with a $150,000 dollar horsehair mattress. Well-rested guests can also avail themselves of unlimited ensuite pampering from the staff at the onboard Canyon Ranch Spa.
"It's spectacular when you go in there and you see it and you see the separate jacuzzi, you see the heated beds, you see the massage tables, you see all the features you would be accustomed to in our spas, it’s in the suite," said Tom Klein, Canyon Ranch’s COO.
Also in the Regent Suite is a half-million dollar hand-built Steinway piano, designed by New Yorker Dakota Jackson. Jackson, who has a showroom in Manhattan’s D&D building, is also responsible for the interior design of 20 suites in the Seven Seas category.
"I think you can say that it is urbane,” said Jackson. “You might feel a little bit of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, 1930’s New York, a penthouse, you know?"
So what does it cost to sail in one of Jackson’s suites? On a 10-day cruise from Miami in February for instance, about $10,000 per person, double occupancy. The over-the-top Regent Suite with the free spa treatments? $10,000 a night. And that’s after factoring in 2-for-1 pricing.
