BUFFALO, N.Y. — It’s now been more than a year since Shea’s Performing Arts Center has been able to welcome patrons into the theatre for in-person shows. That hasn’t stopped them from bringing performances to students’ homes. Now Disney is pairing up with Shea’s for a special surprise.

"Western New York schools, to the tune of 2,200 individual watchers, are going to be showing a really incredible film version of the Broadway show "Newsies" into their homes, schools, and auditoriums," said Thembi Duncan, Shea’s arts engagement director.

Since opening on Broadway, more than 2.5 million audience members in 65 cities around the country have seen "Newsies." Now students in Western New York are grateful to experience the productions.

Shea’s executives say by watching the musical, students are receiving positive messages.

"It’s really an underdog story of young people who are taking on a big establishment in a publishing company. Workers are rising up to stand up for themselves. I think it’s an amazing example for kids right now who might find the world a little bit confusing, might find the world scary. This is a way to ground yourself in your identity and fight for what’s right," added Duncan.

The students can view the musical through April.
