There’s a renewed push to take down the Christopher Columbus statue in downtown Buffalo.
A petition was started on change.org and has almost 4,000 signatures.
There's another one circulating that has more than 200. It says the statue is a disgraceful showing of support of a man who committed genocide against indigenous people, and by keeping it signals that Buffalo stands by Columbus' actions.
It comes as there has been a renewed push nationwide to remove similar statues in other communities.
The statue has been vandalized in the past and members of the community have called to have it removed.
