The State Education Department last month released new guidelines for curriculum standards at non-public and religious schools.

We spoke to education commissioner MaryEllen Elia about these guidelines and the continued pushback from a specific group of schools.

300 schools are yeshivas, or private schools for Orthodox Jewish children, who are traditionally reluctant to adopt state regulations.
