There are renewed calls from local lawmakers for Ulster County Legislator Hector Rodriguez to step down, after seven women came forward earlier this year accusing the legislator of inappropriately touching them or making suggestive comments to them.

An independent investigation was conducted by a law firm, and it details some of the comments Rodriguez is accused of making.

In a report, the investigation found that legislator Rodriguez made inappropriate comments to women such as, "I thought you loved me" and "you're so beautiful.

The report recommended that Rodriguez step down immediately, and Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan agrees.

"I strongly urge the Ulster County Legislature to take immediate action to publicly condemn Legislator Rodriguez’s behavior and use any and all other means available to them to ensure he is held accountable for his actions," said Ryan in a statement.

KT Tobin, the deputy mayor of the town of New Paltz says she was also inappropriately touched by Rodriguez.

"I recalled a interaction that I had had with him a long time ago so because of that interaction it wasn’t surprising to me that maybe there was a harmful pattern of behavior here," said Tobin.

Her experience is similar to those of the women involved in the investigation.

"I would just call it unwanted touching where I had to tell him that he crossed boundaries and that was not the type of relationship that we needed to conduct," said Tobin.

On Monday legislature chair Tracey Bartels announced that Rodriguez was removed from two of the three committees he was on.

Bartels tells Spectrum News the legislature does not have the authority to remove members of the legislature due to the state's Public Officers law which only allows elected officials to be removed if they are convicted of a crime.
