Sunday’s game won’t just crown a champion at the end of the NFL season. It will herald a huge day for advertisers and restaurants, and a potentially record-breaking one for sports betting.

“Even those who don't watch the Super Bowl or watch football in general, they all find their way to watching the Super Bowl, whether it's for the commercials or the halftime show or the game itself," said Michelle Semerano, the director of online marketing for casino group Resorts World. "Everybody is doing something. Everybody is betting small amounts just to pick a team.”

According to the American Gaming Association, a record 50 million adults will wager nearly $16 billion on the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. That’s a 61% increase from last season’s big game.

Meghan Taylor, vice president of public relations at Resorts World, said it’s one of the biggest days of the year for the company.

  • Caesar's Sportsbook reported earlier this week that 73% of bets placed have been on the Philadelphia Eagles to win

“So many of our players and our guests will be watching the game, whether they're betting on the game or not," Taylor said. "It’s an event that brings so many people together.”

New this year: the Resorts World sports betting app that launched in March will get its first go at the big game.

“The ease of being able just to sit at home or sit here at the bar and be able to place a bet is just so convenient for so many bettors," Semerano said.

Taylor said pairing the app with their sportsbook at Resorts World Catskills keeps options open for customers.

“Customers like what they like and there are certain customers that will only bet sports on their mobile app," she said. "And that's wonderful because we have a product for you. And then there are some customers that do a little bit of both, bet on their mobile app but then will also bet in an actual sportsbook. And again we have that option for folks too.”
