Gold Star families were recognized in Newburgh on Monday, as a portion of State Route 300 was renamed in honor of those who died in the line of duty and their family members.

Former State Senator Bill Larkin, Gold Star family members and local veterans were on hand for the dedication.

Among those there: the mother of Christopher DeAngelis, who was killed in action in 1987. She tells us the sign is an important reminder of her son's life.

"You don't want to think that loss was a sacrifice for nothing," Renate DeAngelis said. "This way it will be remembered."

Larkin, who served in the Army for 23 years, made remembering veterans a key part of his work in the state legislature.
