Police released the name of the man arrested after a stabbing near the Ellenville School District Friday afternoon prompted a lockdown.

David Lloyd, 38, is facing charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Ellenville Police say Lloyd stabbed a man multiple times in the front yard of Maple Avenue, amid an argument over the man's involvement with Lloyd's wife.

Police say the stabbing victim left the scene, later going to Ellenville Hospital with life threatening injuries, and has since been transfered into surgery at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

They say the initial report they received suggested the stabbing victim had a gun but police initially reported they did not find one.

The Ellenville Police chief says they had to clear all three school buildings after the lockdown, and coordinated with the district to dismiss students.

"Listen, when this type of event happens at a school district it is very alarming, or close to a school district, it is very alarming. So the fact that we were able to get the school locked down very quickly, and the other fact where the Sheriff's Department, State Police, and members of our agency were able to apprehend the people involved in this, and recover the weapon, was instrumental in making sure everyone was safe."

Lloyd has been arraigned and placed in Ulster County Jail, with a court date set for next Tuesday.
