More than 5,500 valentines for local veterans, each a thank you note for their service, composed Valentines For Veterans, a program out of Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney's office.

Vets were serenaded Monday at Castle Point VA as they received cards and flowers, which were collected and assembled by businesses, schools, and other organizations across the Hudson Valley.

Maloney says it feels good to see how happy veterans are when they receive the cards.

"You just kind of have to be here to see it. People are touched by the individual messages of thanks and support that they get in each one of these valentines," said Maloney, D-18th District.

This is the 5th year Maloney's office has coordinated the program.

Some of the valentines will be sent to those from the 105th Airlift Wing based out of Stewart Air National Guard base who are deployed.
