Kingston city officials are planning to drop $2.5 million to renovate Dietz Stadium. The renovation money is coming from a $10 million grant through the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

Currently, Dietz Stadium is half-owned by the city and half-owned by the district. The district is now in talks with the city to make a deal which gives full ownership to the city, who then plan to upgrade it.

City officials say the city recently lost its ability to host the NYSPHSAA state football sectional games because the city's facilities were outdated.

At his State of the City address, Mayor Steve Noble said renovations are going to bring events and people back to Kingston.

"Once completed, I am confident that Kingston students and our community as a whole will benefit tremendously," Noble said.

The project budget includes wifi, new locker-rooms, new bleachers and a new PA system. The project is likely going out for bid this year, but will be a two-year project.
