In Middletown, gifts are going to local families as part of the Toys For Tots program.

"It's a huge part of the Marine Corps. We do this every year since 1947," said Corporal Timothy Wood.

State Police at Troop F, one of the many Hudson Valley drop-off locations, have collected toys from their own members in the community.

"So we have about 120 businesses that collect toys for us, and New York State Troopers are one of them," Wood said.

Last year, there were more than 300 toys donated at the Middletown State Police Headquarters. This year, that number increased to more than 500.

"It is extremely gracious of everybody. It goes to show the goodness, the overall cheer that's still in people's hearts," said State Police Trooper Jason Nery.

The toys filled up two vans in total and are now headed to the main distribution center in Newburgh to be sorted out.
