HONOR and RECAP are two Hudson Valley not-for-profits that fill a range of community needs.

"Honor is Orange County's primary homeless services provider. At any given night, we could have up to 130 men, women, and children, half of which are children under 17," said Christopher Molinelli, executive director at HONOR.

Then there is RECAP.

"RECAP has been in the community since 1965, and we are the designated anti-poverty agency," said Michele McKeon, chief operating officer at RECAP.

These organizations are hoping for some help from their friends this Giving Tuesday.

"Without the fundraising piece like Giving Tuesday, we wouldn't be able to do our jobs as effectively, and do things outside of what our contract calls for," said McKeon.

Organizations like HONOR and RECAP survive on funding, whether it is the government's money to provide programs, or local donations from the community that helps fill the gaps.

"In Orange County we are remarkably blessed by living in an unbelievably generous community. There are a lot of not-for-profits in Orange County that do wonderful work, [yet] we have a community that supports our work," said McKeon.

HONOR and RECAP are two of several Hudson Valley-based organizations listed on the NY Gives Day website. Visitors can select from a list of registered organizations and donate based on location or issue — both McKeon and Molinelli confirm the funds go directly to their causes.

"We contribute everything back to the residents' needs: such as food, clothing, personal hygiene products, socks, gloves diapers, [or] formula. Every dollar [received] on Giving Tuesday, we humbly return to the residents," said Molinelli.

And though they are grateful for every dollar raised this day, their charitable ways extend to all 365 days of the year.

"What we hope is that while everyone is in a very giving spirit during the holiday season, that we can help them understand that our clients are with us year round, and we would ask that their giving be considered year round as well," said McKeon.
