A car crashed into an Orange County creek Friday, prompting an emergency, rainy rescue.

Washingtonville Fire Chief Gary Hearn says responders were called shortly before 1 p.m. to rescue a woman after her car went off Tutt Hill Road into Cromline Creek. She was able to get out of the car and onto its roof, but was trapped, and the official says the rain caused the water to move faster and higher.

Still, Hearn says they got her off the roof using a ladder, without ever touching the water, and with time on their side.

Hearn says the woman was examined by medical responders, but chose not to go to the hospital. Responders from several other departments took part in the rescue.

It's not yet clear how the car got in the water.
