Corrections officers picketed outside the Fishkill Correctional Facility Friday over worker treatment.

Spectrum News talked to an official with the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, who says not enough is being done to protect members.

Among the changes he wants are more penalties, including criminal charges, when inmates assault staff.

"Nothing is ever done as far as outside charges concerning assaults on staff," said NYSCOPBA Mid-Hudson Region Vice President Mike Mazzella. "I mean, you assault a cop on the street, you're doing five years jail time. You assault a correction officer, you're lucky if you get 30 days in a special housing unit."

Representatives for the New York City PBA joined Friday's demonstration.
