Kids and adults in Poughkeepsie visited the waterfront today in celebration of the annual John Flowers Old Fashioned Easter Egg Hunt.

The community event was started more than 20 years ago by the late community organizer John Flowers. His children carry on the tradition with help from a team of volunteers drawing hundreds to Waryas Park.

Children of all ages and their families particpated in the search for candy filled eggs, as well as enjoyed face painting and a dance party.

Flowers' daughter and event organizer Yvonne Flowers says holding this event continues the tradition to bring families together during the holiday weekend.

"This is what we want to see," said Flowers who is also a councilwoman in Poughkeepsie's Ward 5. "My father's mission was to promote love and happiness and unity and this is what we're seeing today."

The event is supported by community sponsorships and donations, and is free for the public. Organizers say they volunteers filled and put out over 30,000 eggs for this year's hunt.
