The past few days haven't been easy for the staff and students at Roy C. Ketcham Senior High School in Wappingers Falls.

"Emotionally draining, I would say. It's been a very long week," said physical education teacher Erin Mulligan.

They're moving through the stages of grief as they remember their coach, colleague, mentor, announcer and friend. Julia Eurillo, who everyone at RCK lovingly called "Coach Jules," passed away suddenly on Monday at the age of 47.

"We were at each other's weddings, we were in each other's lives and it's just been really hard," said special education teacher Charles Williams.

The sudden news sent shockwaves through the school and the community. Her colleagues remember her for many reasons.

"You didn't have to ask," Mulligan said. "Jules was just there. Before you could ask for the help, she was offering the help. Always just stepping up, and I don't know where she got the energy from. She was just wonderful."

The students and staff paid tribute to her on Thursday with a spirit day. They say she loved Ketcham red, and many wore it in her honor. Students also shared fond memories of her as a coach.

"She was a coach all around," said senior Isabelle Vanbenschoten. "She was a coach for all of us. She was just a huge part of Ketcham."

For the people at RCK, Coach Jules' memory and legacy will live on with all who knew her.
