MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- The Millbrook School community is in mourning after their 32-year-old Athletic Director, Edward Allen was killed in a crash in Dutchess County.

Allen died after his car crashed into a dump truck on Route 44.

His two young children were inside the car at the time of the crash. They were sent to the hospital for treatment. Officials said one of the children suffered life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Deputies believe a distraction caused Allen to veer his car into the opposite lane and into the truck head-on. They said, at this time, they don't think cell phone use is to blame.

Millbrook School sent the following letter to their alumni:

Dear Alumni,

It is with heaviest of hearts that I write to inform you that Ed Allen, athletic director and faculty member at Millbrook School, died in a car accident this morning. This is an incalculable loss for all who knew and loved Ed, starting with his family. It is an equal tragedy for the Millbrook School community. Our focus now is to care for the Allen family and each other at school.

Ed and Emily's daughters were also in the car. They are currently being cared for at Westchester Medical Center, and we have every hope that they will fully recover.

I will be back in touch with further details regarding services for Ed. Until then, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
