Nava and Alex Fogelman emigrated to New York from Israel in 2016, but just 6 months after they got here, Nava was diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer.

"Some of the tumors that I have are in my lungs and in my chest, so breathing is an effort for me," said Nava.

It's now spread to many parts of her body.

A few days ago, they received an anonymous letter from a man whose father had cancer and survived because of the community support they had. He wants to pay it forward and after hearing about Nava's situation decided to help.

In the letter was $500.

"I'm not touching other people right now that's not my family because of my immune system is shut down, but I really, really wanted to hug this man and to give him a huge kiss and tell him thank you," Nava said.

"It wasn't about the money, it was about the message."

The Goshen residents say as immigrants, they never expected to have this much community support.

"People that have no idea who we are wrote us that they will come with food, and if we need something, we just need to let them know," Nava said.

Even though Nava’s family is across the world, she doesn't feel alone.

"I feel like I won. I may be very, very sick, and maybe my expiration date is really, really close, but I will not be alone until my last minute, and the community made sure I will not be alone," she said.
