PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. -- A 70-year-old man was charged with murder following a shooting in Pleasant Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s representatives said Rosario Curcio of Poughkeepsie shot his ex-girlfriend, 56-year-old Lana Florio, also of Poughkeepsie, in the head at the Pleasant Valley Trout and Game Club. Florio died on the scene.

Authorities said Curcio and Florio were standing near the shooting range when Curcio shot and killed her. Sheriff's representatives said when Curcio was detained, he hit his head against the cage in the car, causing bruising to his face.

Curcio has been charged with second degree murder.

"The motive is still under investigation. There is no indication of any sort of argument or dispute prior to the shooting," said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Captain John Watterson.

Authorities said Curcio is currently in Dutchess County Jail without bail.
