They say every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings. Take a trip to Seneca Falls and you'll be transported to Bedford Falls, home of a classic.
"I was really kind of excited to come here," said Jeanette Sparks, visiting from Pennsylvania. Sparks had to see the "It's a Wonderful Life" Museum for herself.
"Just because every year I have to watch 'Its a Wonderful Life' at Christmastime, its a tradition I've just done it for so many years I can't even remember," Sparks said. "And we wanted to see what kind of little town could have inspired this and understood that Seneca Falls was the place to go."
"The best thing is as soon as we opened up, people started showing up," said Fran Caraccilo, with the "It's A Wonderful Life" Museum. "And I think that just goes to show you, you need this movie all the time, whatever the crisis is."
Whether you've seen the 1946 Frank Capra classic once, or a couple hundred times, you can see things like two pairs of earrings, some of the last surviving props from the film. Seneca Falls has a lot to offer, like an old mill that turned into the National Women's Hall of Fame, which is reopening this week.
Take a walk along the canal and see the water, or take a walk through the Ludovico Sculpture Trail. See faces of famous women and walk for about a mile. It's perfect for the whole family to take a stroll through nature. If classic movies or nature don't appeal to you, how about history? You can see Elizabeth Cady Stanton's home, and you can also see where the first Women's Rights convention was held in Wesleyan Chapel.
"And I love camping as well so we decided to take a 'staycation' so to speak and stay in the area and so we could still see new and different things and broaden our minds and learn about something else," said Joan Ferrara-Millar, visiting from Connecticut.
You can't go inside right now but you can learn from a park ranger. There are a couple days a week you can explore inside the visitor's center. But make sure you check out the water wall. When you're planning your next day trip, consider taking a trip on a tankful to Seneca Falls.
