WEST TURIN, N.Y. -- Many spent Sunday out on their sleds exploring the trails in West Turin.

"The trails are in pretty good condition. The weather is like outstanding," said Jim Monnat, Lewis County Sheriff's Office undersheriff.

But for two snowmobilers, it was their last ride.

"About 10:25 in the morning, we got a call of a head-on collision involving two snowmobiles," Monnat said.

Investigators listed speed as a factor in the crash.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office said 21-year-old Jesse Rosebush hit 48-year-old Jay Isabelle.

"It was on the Glen[field] West Turin railroad bed, that trail," Monnat said. "We took both of our sleds in. Constable Ambulance and Turin Ambulance took their sleds in with the toboggan, and we also had the groomer there to assist with the removal of the sleds."

Both riders were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are reminding those who plan on hitting the trails to play it safe.

"They've got to reduce their speed, be reasonable, be courteous to others on the trail, and stay on their side of the trail," said Monnat.
