If you like delicious Greek food and celebrating Greek culture, the 49th annual Greek Cultural Festival takes place tonight through Sunday at Saint Sophia's Church in Syracuse.
The event has been held as a drive-thru-only event each of the last two years.
Many visit the church every year for their favorites from the beef and chicken gyros to desserts like baklava. This year, you can also expect to see the return of traditional dancing, church tours and wine tastings.
Organizers said volunteers spend months preparing thousands of pastries and going over other small steps to make sure the festival is a success.
"We couldn't do this without the volunteers," said St. Sophia's Parish Council President Peter Manolakos. “And some people are incredibly dedicated to putting this festival together, but we are excited. The community is excited, and it gets us all back together again in a very special way.”
Parking around the church can be difficult. You're encouraged to park and use the free shuttles during festival hours at CBA High School, Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School or Tecumseh Elementary School.
The festival takes place at Saint Sophia's campus at 325 Waring Road in Syracuse. The festival runs from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 5-10 p.m. on Friday. Hours on Saturday are from noon-10 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-4 p.m.
