Paige’s Butterfly Run returns to downtown Syracuse this weekend.

You can join in the 5k run, the 3k walk or the “Caterpillar Crawl,” which is for kids 5 and younger. Proceeds go to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, supporting research and financial support for families with a child battling cancer.

What You Need To Know

  • Paige's Butterfly Run, held Saturday, features a 5K, 3K walk and a "Caterpillar Crawl"

  • Money raised goes to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital

  • Registration runs as late as the morning of the race

The run is in memory of a girl named Paige that was diagnosed with leukemia at age 6 and died a year later.

“It’s kind of a love letter to Paige. But we can’t do anything more for Paige. We all know that, but what we can do in her memory is help others," said Chris Arnold, Paige’s father.

The start and finish line are in front of the National Grid building. Registration runs as late as the morning of the race.

Since the event began 25 years ago, almost $4 million has been raised. This annual event lets Paige's memory live on, and helps other families like hers each year.

“As a parent who has lost a child, it is wonderful to hear your child’s name on the lips of other people. It’s not something that hurts; it’s something that helps," said Arnold.

If exercise isn’t your thing, Talking Cursive is selling butterfly cutouts through Saturday that go toward Paige's Butterfly Run. After the 2019 race, they were able to donate $215,000 to the hospital.
