There are several new coaches all across Section III for the spring season.

One of them, Ryan Powell, was a sharpshooter. He's now calling the shots at Christian Brothers Academy as their new head boys lacrosse coach.

What You Need To Know

  • Ryan Powell was a four-time All-American at Syracuse

  • This year, he's starting a new endeavor --coaching the CBA boys lacrosse team

"My approach with the guys is to be hard on them,” Powell said. “But also the same way, a little bit laid back approach as well.”

He knows the game, and he knows how to find the back of the net.

"I think we’re going to play fast this year, run and gun, old school Syracuse lacrosse style," Powell said.

Powell is a four-time All-American at Syracuse, a national champion and a U.S. Lacrosse hall of famer.

“I love to compete,” Powell said. “I want to win the final game. That’s our mindset. We are going to do everything we can to accomplish that goal.”

He has lofty goals of winning a state title. Powell has brought in another pro to help him make that a reality, MLL all-star and B’ville product Jeremy Boltus.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have a guy of his caliber,” Powell said. “He coached the offense for three seasons of Major League Lacrosse, and most recently got offered a job in the PLL, the Premiere Lacrosse League, as an offensive coordinator.”

Their numbers speak for themselves, but Powell and Boltus aren’t letting them do the talking.

“We have to come out here and earn their respect,” Powell said. “Just because we’re accomplished lacrosse players doesn’t mean that relates to our personality and the people that we are.”

It’s a new chapter for Powell -- one that he’s just starting to write.

"I think I look good in purple," he said.
