On Saturday, rounds four through seven provided one more opportunity for Trill Williams to live out his NFL Draft dream, after being passed over the previous two days. But, that moment never came for the former Orange defensive back, as he went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.
But despite going undrafted, Williams may have made out in the end. Moments after the drafts conclusion, Trill signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New Orleans Saints. Having gone undrafted, Williams had his choice of teams to sign with. The decision to sign with New Orleans gives Williams the chance to make the roster on a perennial NFC power.
Williams won’t be the only Orange in New Orleans either. Soon after Trill signed with the Saints, former Orange punter Nolan Cooney inked a similar undrafted free agent deal with the Saints.
The move gives the pair a familiar face as they embark on their journey to the NFL. Williams finished his career with four interceptions at SU, while Cooney was third team All-ACC as a punter last season.
