The Wieczorek brothers are as close as a group can get.
Mike, the oldest, is closest to the screen. Luke, a bit more shy, is wearing purple.
But it's Noah who is taking center attention on this day. And at 6-foot-5, that's easy for him to do.
What You Need To Know
- Noah Wieczorek was offered a scholarship by Siena College without being scouted in person
- Noah skipped last season's high school basketball season to focus on baseball and improve his scouting odds
- Noah plans to return to the C-NS basketball team this season
Noah is a pitcher from Cicero-North Syracuse, and he looks every bit the part of it. Baseball is big for the Wieczorek family. For Noah, it was a way for him to hang out with his brothers.
“We’ve played since Little League," said Noah. "All three of us have played up. Right now, me and my older brother have played varsity together."
All that hard work is paying off, as Noah is headed to Siena College on a baseball scholarship. But his voyage to Siena wasn't the most direct.
Lightly scouted throughout his career, Noah found himself behind the 8 ball. To make things worse, with no junior season due to the coronavirus, coaches weren't even able to see Noah in person. So he had to get a little lucky.
And he did, in the most 2020 of ways.
“Siena Coach [Tony] Rossi reached out to me, and he saw me through video I had sent him," Noah said. "He gave me an opportunity to play, and I was very impressed with their program."
The program offered Noah a scholarship without ever seeing him in person. A little technology, a little luck, and sure determination might have Siena seeing one of Central New York’s best-kept secrets.
