Syracuse, N.Y. -- The 2020 seasons for the Syracuse Mets, Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and Auburn Doubledays were officially cancelled late Tuesday afternoon when the minor league baseball seasons were called off because of the coronavirus.

It's the first time in the International League's 137-year history that there won't be any baseball played this summer. The last time the Salt City experienced a summer without baseball was in 1960.

Some of the Mets' top prospects will likely see some action as part of the parent club's 60-man player pool that will begin working out at training camp later this week.

Mets' General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said Monday that fan favorite Tim Tebow has not yet been ruled out for the 60-man roster, leaving open the possibility the Syracuse Mets' outfielder could see some time in the major leagues this summer.

The cancellation could be the end of the line for the Doubledays and Rumble Ponies, two teams reportedly on the chopping block as MLB teams pare down their minor league systems.
