It didnt happen overnight, but in the end the result is the same. Jeff Teat will be returning to Cornell for an extra lacrosse season.

After the coronavirus postponed the remainder of the Big Red season, Teat and other college spring sport athletes were granted an extra year of eligibility via a special waiver. Teat's decision to return to Cornell makes him the first Ivy league senior to return to their school.

What You Need To Know

  • Jeff Teat was drafted by the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse and the Chaos of Premier Lacrosse League following end of Cornell's season

  • Teat says he made the decision to return immediately following the season

  • No player prior to Teat had returned to an Ivy League school

  • With Teat going back to school, the Chaos and the Cannons lose Teat's draft rights

Teat called the decision an easy one. This comes despite the fact that he was drafted professionally twice this spring; once by the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse and later by the Chaos of the Premier Lacrosse League. With Teat's decision to return to college, both teams lose his draft rights.

The retention of Teat is a big boost for the Big Red program. First-year head coach Connor Buczek said he views Teat "as a team leader both on the field and off the field."

Cornell is looking to build off a 5-0 record and a No. 2 ranking by USILA before the season was shut down. Teat led the Big Red with 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in five games this past season.
