Games at Syracuse University this fall could be a little different. First of all, there will be a new roof. Plus, the coronavirus could impact the fan experience. Athletic Director John Wildhack says one thing certainly won’t change: the name of the building.
“The name of the facility is the Carrier Dome," said Wildhack. "And the name remains the Carrier Dome. It’s on the Carrier Dome, so that’s the answer to that question.”
What You Need To Know
- Syracuse University is not speaking to other companies about renaming the Dome, said AD John Wildhack
- The school is looking at a variety of seating arrangements in the event of reduced capacity
- Construction on the new roof is on schedule
Wildhack says he is not talking to other companies about renaming the Dome. Questions have been swirling since construction began and the school stopped using the word Carrier.
As for those renovations, Wildhack says they’re still on schedule.
“A lot of working being done internally, that type of thing, all to be prepared for later this summer when we install the new roof and once that’s up it’s the center-hung scoreboard, new sound, new lighting, that type of thing,” said Wildhack.
As for what it will be like if and when the Orange Empire is allowed inside, it's too early to know, Wildhack said.
The home opener for football is 100 days away and a lot could change in that time. Wildhack said he’s hoping fans can watch in person, so the school is working on a variety of seating arrangements in case there is reduced capacity.
“It could include the wearing of masks," said Wildhack. "It could include temperature checks. But we’re gonna take our cues off of the medical experts.”
If fans are allowed to attend, Wildhack says his priority is season ticket holders, premium seat holders and student season ticket holders.
