SU athletic director John Wildhack sat down with our Mark Larson on Monday to talk more about the future of football coach Dino Babers.

Wildhack says he has not had any conversations yet with Babers on extending his contract or raising his salary — a contract that is believed to have three more years still on it. He adds it's a conversation that will happen organically.

“The relationship that we have and the conversations we have, I can call him 24 hours a day, he can call me 24 hours a day. He doesn’t need an appointment to see me, I don’t need to make an appointment to see Dino. We talk frequently. At the same time, I want to respect him because it’s so busy when you’re recruiting and doing bowl prep," said Wildhack.

Babers has said he's happy here, but other schools may be able to offer twice his current salary or more, which Wildhack admits would be tough to compete with.

"Some things monetarily, you just can’t compete with,” said Wildhack. “The Alabamas of the world or something like that, and you can’t do that. But I feel really good about what’s been accomplished, I feel good about the resources that we put into the program. I enjoy working with him immensely, I enjoy him as a person, and again, I want him to be our coach for a long time."

The Orange will face West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl on December 28.
