SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Skaneateles ended its high school football season in style -- with a state championship.

Patrick Hackler threw three touchdown passes, Areh Boni added a 6-yard plunge and the Lakers took the Class C championship with a 28-25 win over Holy Trinity from the Albany area on Friday evening.

Tommy Scherrer also caught a TD pass from Hackler, the Lakers' prolific passer, as Skaneateles held a 14-12 lead at the half and never relinquished it -- though things did get interesting in the final minutes, with Holy Trinity throwing a pair of TD passes to make it a three-point game. Missed PATs early on, though, were ultimately Holy Trinity's undoing.

Hackler completed 10 of 21 passes for 184 yards and three scores, overcoming three interceptions. He also ran 24 times for 139 yards in the victory.

The Lakers outgained Holy Trinity 500-325 in total yardage, amassing 29 first downs in the win.
