Buffalo now has a championship professional hockey team, after the Buffalo Beauts captured the National Women's Hockey League title Sunday night against Boston.
After celebrating into the early morning hours on the bus ride home, the Beauts triumphantly returned to town Monday, proudly displaying the Isobel Cup at Harborcenter.
Following an up-and-down regular season, the club turned it on in the playoffs to claim the title in underdog fashion a 3-2 win over the Pride.
The Beauts, whose roster features several Buffalo-area natives, avenged a championshp game loss to the Pride from last season.
Now their names will forever be etched on the Isobel Cup.
The Beauts and the entire league have now been around for two seasons, and hope their story will help increase support for women's pro hockey and the NWHL.
