John Johnson is originally from Long Island, but he felt instantly at home in a community that’s just as sports-crazed as he is. John and his fiancée moved to Liverpool last year and have felt extremely welcomed by the people of Central New York, who he says are always willing to help a neighbor, engage in small talk, and share a friendly smile.
Prior to joining Spectrum News three years ago, John worked in production for the MLB Network, where he won an Emmy, before getting his first on-air gig as a sports anchor and reporter for WBKB-TV in Alpena, Michigan. John was also a two-sport athlete at Union College, playing both baseball and football, so he loves being involved in covering sports he played and watching others continue on a path he once followed.
John has covered countless stories, but the most meaningful work he’s done has been reporting on the growth and development of Matt Morgan, a Cornell student and legitimate pro prospect. He’s spent several moments with Morgan talking about basketball, his future, and how Cornell shaped him into the man he’s become.
When he’s not working, you’ll find John spending time with his fiancée and two dogs, Peyton and Penny. They’ve come to love summers on the lake and brushing up on their beer knowledge while brewery hopping.
