Around $14 million in direct property damage is caused yearly by holiday decorations, and not checking that tree or lights twice, like Santa checks his list, is the culprit, according to the National Fire Prevention Association.

It doesn't take much or long for a Christmas tree to go up in flames. Add the furniture, presents and everything else in the room, and you've got trouble. Those winter greens, lights, candles and even cookies all pose a fire risk.

Between 2018-2022, the National Fire Prevention Association says U.S. fire departments responded to an average of 155 home fires that started with Christmas trees.

To help avoid these hazards, firefighter Dave Morales provided a plethora of holiday safety advice.
