A Copenhagen man has pleaded not guilty to multiple felonies connected to a crash that killed an Amish teenager in July in Lowville.

A Lewis County grand jury returned a 17-count indictment against 41-year-old Jared Spaulding on Wednesday, including first degree vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.

The charges stem from a July 14 crash on State Route 12 in Lowville; a New York State Police investigation revealed Spaulding's Ford Escape crashed into the back of an Amish buggy, which ejected all five people in the buggy. One, a 17-year-old male, died. A horse was also euthanized due to its injuries.

Spaulding, according to police, left the scene of the crash. He was arrested Tuesday; after his arraignment and plea, he was remanded to the Lewis County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
