New York State Police is now committing more resources from both the Troop D Major Crimes Unit and the Albany-based Cold Case Unit after the FBI announced more witnesses have come forward 42 years after Tammy Mahoney went missing in Oneida County.

"Simply put, this case has gained momentum in the last year and we continue to make progress," Janeen DiGuiseppi, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Albany Field Office, said Monday.

Mahoney, 19, was last seen on Territory Road in Oneida on May 8, 1981. Investigators believe she was killed after attending a party on the Oneida Nation. The FBI is looking for information on where Tammy is.

In October 2020, the FBI shared an update about Tammy’s disappearance. They were looking for information about a wallet that was dropped off at the Oneida Police Department a week after Tammy disappeared. They believed the wallet belonged to someone who knows what happened to Tammy.

Family members are thankful that four decades later, Mahoney is not being forgotten.

"It means everything just knowing all the diligence and hard work all of law enforcement continues to do every day to help bring justice and Tammy home to us so she can be laid to rest with my mother," said Marlene Laccesaglia, Mahoney's sister.

FBI officials say anyone with information that could lead to the whereabouts of Mahoney can contact one its field offices if they have any leads.
