The New York State Police are once again bringing in new recruits.

Because of the pandemic, troopers are allowing for a longer, four-month period to take the exam starting in January. More testing sites are being provided as well.

"We've got to drive people to take the test," said NYSP Superintendent Kevin Bruen. "We have to make those connections with people to make them understand what kind of opportunities being a state trooper has, what the compensation is all about and what the job is really like."

To become a trooper you must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 20 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
