The Onondaga County Legislature has approved a $606,000 body-worn camera proposal for the county Sheriff's Department, but both sides of the aisle remain divided about it.

It comes one day after the Sheriff's Office released its proposal, calling for 274 body-worn cameras for deputies and 67 cameras for the inside and outside of their vehicles.

All 11 Republicans voted in favor of the plan, while the other five Democrats voted against it. Democrats are arguing the process is being rushed, but do support the idea itself.

There were two efforts to delay the vote on the floor, which were both voted down.
