Two people are dead after an overnight house fire in Oswego County.

According to Oswego County Fire Coordinator Donald Forbes, the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Thursday at 467 Peter Scott Road in Pennellville.

Sixteen departments responded to the scene, as there was a lack of hydrants in the area.

"We requested what we call our tanker task force, which brings tankers from all the surrounding area from this area and the area just north of here,” Forbes said. “So once things got rolling, we had 12 tankers here, two fill sites. Once that got going, it's pretty good. It just takes a while to get that established."

Two people were transported to the hospital with injuries. Two other people were initially missing and confirmed dead. They were identified Friday as Judith Noyes, 75, and James W. Noyes, 77.

The two people who escaped have minor burns and were also treated for smoke inhalation.

Forbes said there were possibly smoke detectors not in working order.

As of now, Oaks says the cause of the fire remains unknown.

"I sense this is an isolated incident, but again, the county fire coordinator's office will be investigating the matter," said Oaks.

A GoFundMe was launched to assist the family after the fire.
