Firefighters in Northern New York are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Stockholm Fire Chief Robert White died while responding to a fire Thursday night on State Route 11B, just a few doors down from his own home.
White collapsed at the scene and was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause is under investigation.
Firefighters say White's death is a loss for the whole community.
"Bob was a chief here for 33 years and has been a member for over 40 years, so he's been a part of this community and really been the backbone and flagship leader for several decades. He was a guy that strives for perfectionism," said 2nd Assistant Chief Torey Russell.
A line of duty funeral for White will likely be held within the next few days in Potsdam.
