Staten Island City Councilman Joe Borelli told NY1 Saturday he will resign after nearly 10 years in the chamber.
The Republican representative said he will step down from his seat at the end of the month.
Borelli was first elected in 2015, serving as minority leader in the Council.
His departure will trigger a special election to determine the next representative for Staten Island's southern district.
Borelli said he’s leaving to take on the role of managing director with the lobbying firm Chartwell Strategy Group.
Borelli served as a member of the State Assembly before his election to the City Council.
