The final night of the Republican National Convention is Thursday with former President Donald Trump delivering the keynote speech and officially accepting his party’s nomination for the third consecutive election.
One of the notable people in the audience will be Hudson Valley U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro, who has introduced legislation creating a registry of immigrants in the country illegally who have committed felonies.
Molinaro, who represents the 19th Congressional District, told Capital Tonight host Susan Arbetter that the bill is in direct response to recent upstate New York crimes committed by undocumented people.
“Simply, the Department of Homeland Security would establish this registry so law enforcement — whether they’re in Texas, Alabama, Illinois or New York — would have access to the data, to know whether or not an individual they’re interacting with has been convicted or arrested on a felony,” he explained.
Capital Tonight reached out for a response to Josh Riley, the Democrat challenging Molinaro in November, but did not hear back.
