Several state lawmakers, along with the good government group Common Cause, are pushing a bill to strengthen New York’s candidate disclosure laws. 

The bill was directly inspired by former U.S. Rep. George Santos, who repeatedly lied about key elements of his biography. Santos was expelled from the House of Representatives earlier this month.

State Assembly Member Gina Sillitti, a former Nassau County Board of Elections employee, joined Capital Tonight to discuss the legislation.
