Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick has been re-elected to a ninth term.
The Republican defeated Democratic candidate Chuck Keller, who also challenged Fitzpatrick four years ago, and Conservative Party candidate Christine Varga, who worked for many years in Fitzpatrick’s office.
Fitzpatrick received 58% of the vote, compared to 35% for Keller and 7% for Varga, according to the latest unofficial results from the Onondaga County Board of Elections.
Fitzpatrick has served for 32 years as the county’s chief prosecutor, being first elected in 1991. He has said this would be his last term.
Fitzpatrick will be sworn in for a ninth term at the end of the year.
