Paul Battisti has declared victory in the Republican primary for Broome County district attorney -- a primary rematch from 2019.
According to the latest unofficial results from the Broome County Board of Elections late Tuesday, Battisti led Michael Korchak 56% to 44% with 100% of precincts reporting.
"Today the Republican voters of Broome County decisively declared that they want a big change in leadership at the District Attorney’s Office so that our families are safe again," Battisti said in a statement. "I’m truly humbled and honored to have earned this victory in today’s Primary Election, but there is much more work to do between now and November. Our General Election campaign starts right now, and we won’t stop until we deliver another big win on November 7. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
If his lead sustains, Battisti will again beat Korchak in the Republican primary like he did four years ago, though he ultimately lost that general election when Korchak ran on the Libertarian line.
Korchak has not conceded. He is unable to run as a Libertarian this year due to New York’s new third-party laws.
