Since the legalization of recreational marijuana in New York state, some local governments are choosing to opt out of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

The village of Union Springs introduced its own law in April, but it's facing opposition from the Cayuga Nation.

The nation suggested it could challenge the local law on the grounds of tribal sovereignty.

In an effort to avoid a legal battle, the village has made some revisions.

It proposes that a gas station the Cayuga Nation currently operates be placed in a new zoning district. The new categorization would allow for marijuana dispensaries, consumption sites and wholesale growth and distribution.

A public hearing for the revision is set for this Tuesday.
