A new report claims Rep. John Katko is being recruited to run for New York governor, but a spokesperson said the congressman isn't interested.
The report from CNBC cites unnamed people who were briefed on the situation.
Katko is considered a moderate Republican. He made national headlines when he became the first House Republican to come out and say he would vote to impeach former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is seen as vulnerable by some, in the wake of sexual harassment allegations and controversy over his administration's handling of COVID-19 in nursing homes.
But again, despite the report, a campaign spokesperson said Katko has no interest in running at this time.
Katko's fellow congressman, Rep. Lee Zeldin, recently kicked off his own campaign for governor.
Other prominent New York Republicans have also expressed interest, including North Country Rep. Elise Stefanik and Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
